Optimization of power system for UAV ground control station in Natuna Island

Abstract The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is controlled remotely by the operator at Ground Control Station (GCS) during mission. Reliable electrical energy needed to supply needs in GCS, such as radio communications, workstations, weather stations, HVAC systems, and lamps when UAV operating. GCS located Ranai City, Natuna Islands. mission can assist military monitoring border surveillance, disaster management, mapping area. power source initial design, using a diesel generator main with of 12 kW for 192.3 kWh per day consumption 10.8 load peak. This paper has shown study on hybrid system 3 scenarios, consisting PV system, wind turbine, generator, battery. simulated HOMER accounting technical economic aspects. results showed that NPC LCOE third scenario, which consisted PV/wind/battery, were $181,157.38 $0.15 kWh, respectively. It lowest cost compared first scenario usage only. average fuel 7.97 litre day, down 87% existing condition. Thus, this configuration overcome costs delivering supplies operations complement government’s efforts achieve emission reduction targets.
